Interview with Marco Benzoni, Technical Sales of the company.
What are the main trends you see in the corrugated board industry today? How is ENGICO responding to these challenges?
One of the key trends we’ve observed in the corrugated cardboard industry is the shift toward just-in-time delivery, particularly for large companies. There’s also a clear rise in demand driven by e-commerce and the emergence of new markets.
At ENGICO, we aim to address these trends by developing innovative products and solutions tailored to meet these evolving industry requirements.
ENGICO s.r.l., founded in 1990 in Lissone, Italy, specializes in producing advanced machinery for the corrugated cardboard industry, enhancing efficiency and sustainability for global packaging manufacturers.
Could you tell us about the new technologies or products ENGICO is presenting at this expo? How do they improve production processes?
This year, we are showcasing our dual-size technology, which is a major advancement in the industry. This innovation combines a 66-inch printing and die-cutting cylinder with a 99-inch printing and cutter cylinder, all within a single production line.
The dual-sizes technology offers significant advantages, such as enhanced flexibility, reduced operator requirements, simplified logistics, and a minimized production footprint.
Instead of operating two separate machines, manufacturers can achieve seamless and continuous production with one machine, maximizing efficiency and eliminating downtime.
In your view, what will be the biggest challenges for corrugated board manufacturers in the next five years? How is ENGICO helping them prepare for these challenges?
The corrugated board industry constantly faces challenges, often tied to the shifting needs of other sectors and global markets. One major issue is market diversification—companies must adapt to fluctuations in demand across different industries.
ENGICO supports this by designing machines that enable businesses to remain flexible and expand their reach, ensuring consistent production even during downturns in specific markets.
Another significant challenge, particularly in Europe, is the difficulty of finding skilled workers. Our machines address this by requiring fewer operators, thus maintaining productivity while reducing dependence on labor.
How does ENGICO contribute to sustainability and eco-friendliness within the corrugated board industry?
Sustainability is fundamental to the corrugated board industry, as the final product is inherently eco-friendly. At ENGICO, we extend this principle to our machines. Our direct-drive technology allows customers to regenerate electricity, integrating it back into the production process.
Additionally, our jumbo machines operate efficiently, consuming only 50–80 kW. For cleaning printing stations, we use as little as 10–12 liters of water, significantly reducing water waste.
These features ensure that both production and machinery align with sustainable practices.
What message would you like to share with corrugated board manufacturers around the globe who are watching this interview?
Collaboration is key to the growth of this industry. When our customers succeed, we as suppliers thrive as well. ENGICO is committed to partnering with manufacturers to develop innovative solutions that address future market requirements. Together, we can drive the industry forward.
Thank you, Marco. This was a fantastic insight into Engico’s contributions and vision for the corrugated board industry.
You’re welcome, and thank you for having me.
