Interview with Mike Kohler, Vice President of the company at SuperCorrExpo 2024.
Please tell us about your company and your products.
In front of me, I have a piece of equipment that we make for corrugators and laminators. We call this our water deck. It’s a thin film moisture applicator that helps produce warp-free board. Specifically, post-warp sheets run through a water deck will stay flat. 24 to 48 hours later, you’ll be able to reduce your starch consumption by 30% and increase heavyweight board speeds significantly, up to 100m, sometimes up to 150m per minute.
The big thing you’ll notice about this is that it isn’t a water spray or misting system. We control the moisture in two ways: by using a rod metering system on the back end and by adjusting the speed of the applicator roll. We have two licensee partners: Isowa Corrugated and Fosber, who has a booth right behind us. We have 200 of these installed in the field today. On the laminator side of the market, we have over 50% of the laminators in the North American market equipped with water decks.
Kohler Coating, Inc. is a world leader in glue application and moisture control technologies within the corrugating industry. The company’s products are designed to reduce warp, waste, starch consumption, and energy usage.
And you know this word, sustainability?
Regarding sustainability, this machine will reduce the overall raw materials used in the process. For instance, it can reduce starch consumption by 30%. It will also allow you to use 25 to 30% less energy in your process by significantly reducing the amount of heat needed to heat the paper. I can always go into more detail about the science behind this. Feel free to reach out to us for more information.
One of the other products we make is a rod coater that applies barrier coatings, specifically for plastic replacement or food-grade barrier coatings that don’t contain endocrine disruptors or polystyrene. Our rod coater applies all types of water-based coatings to replace plastic.
Can you tell something for your client?
