“Consumer trends and expectations are fast-moving. In keeping with the desire for sustainable packaging, we designed this product solution to create a high-end visual impact both on the shelf and online,” says Thoran Ottens, Divisional Key Account Manager for Electronics at DS Smith.

DS Smith has announced a new partnership with Versuni, a leading home appliance company, to develop an innovative, sustainable packaging solution for the Philips Baristina coffee machine. This collaboration aims to create a fibre-based packaging that is both recycled and recyclable, eliminating the need for plastic bags within the box.
The bespoke packaging features corrugated buffers treated with an anti-scratch coating to prevent external blemishes, ensuring the product remains pristine during transportation. Designed by the expert teams at DS Smith and Versuni, the packaging also enhances the unboxing experience, presenting the coffee machine elegantly at the center.
DS Smith utilized their unique Circular Design Metrics (CDM) tool to measure the overall performance of the packaging solution across eight key indicators, including recyclability, renewable content, and supply chain optimization. This tool helps assess the sustainability performance of the packaging design and identify areas for improvement.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! ✨
