Despite the challenges posed by war and the current market conditions, Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill (Kyiv CPM) continues to invest in modernizing its production. Backed by Austrian investor Pulp Mill Holding, the company has upgraded its equipment over the past three years—enabling it to develop entirely new packaging formats and enhance its existing solutions.
Embracing the evolving needs of modern consumers and the dynamic growth of the e-commerce sector, Kyiv CPM is setting new trends in the packaging industry. As an undisputed leader and trendsetter, the company’s experts at the Obukhiv plant have become the first in Ukraine to develop secure packaging variants specifically designed for shipping wine by mail.

According to Andriy Rebro, Deputy Director of the Sales Department for Corrugated Products and Molded Packaging at Kyiv CPM, this season’s innovations are built around three key product lines, each tailored to meet the specific demands of both large marketplaces and niche online retailers:
Wine Standard: This is a standardized packaging solution for 1–6 units of alcoholic beverages. It consists of an outer box and an insert capsule and supports bottles with a diameter of up to 82 mm and a height of up to 330 mm. Additionally, we offer a specialized modification for sparkling wines, accommodating bottles with a diameter of up to 92 mm and a height of up to 350 mm, ensuring reliable protection during transit.
Extra Protection Universal: This option is our most secure packaging variant. It features a dual fixation system that secures bottles from both the top and bottom, providing maximum safety during transport. The line includes configurations for 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6 bottles and supports various bottle shapes with diameters of up to 98 mm.
Economy Universal: This new ‘compromise’ format combines affordability with an acceptable level of safety. It consists of an outer box and a universal safety insert designed to secure bottles with a diameter of up to 92 mm at various height levels, ranging from 265 to 340 mm.
In addition to these innovative packaging solutions, Kyiv CPM has also introduced modernized holders for both wine and sparkling wine—designed to accommodate 4 or 6 bottles.
At the core of these innovations are European principles of ecological sustainability and safety. Kyiv CPM’s new packaging strictly adheres to modern Western eco-trends and food safety standards. The updated formats are manufactured using robust, in-house produced corrugated cardboard, with eco-craft cardboard employed for flat layers.
Notably, the packaging eliminates the need for non-ecological bubble wrap or additional sealing materials, as the designs are secured with extra-strong permanent adhesive (PSA) without tape and incorporate an integrated tear tape that removes the need for cutting tools.
Pre-launch crash tests have confirmed an almost 100% guarantee of bottle protection. Over more than 18 months of practical use, the company has not received a single customer complaint regarding product damage during shipment.
Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill’s breakthrough in wine packaging not only sets a new benchmark for safety and sustainability but also solidifies its position as a leader in the competitive packaging market.
