Interview with Carsten Dickmann, the Marketing Director of the company at Fachpack 2024.
What are the main trends you see in the corrugated board industry today? And how is your company responding to these challenges?
The first megatrend is automation. Automation is a trend that our customers need. They require higher throughputs and larger quantities to be sent out in e-commerce. This is one thing. Another trend is flexibility.
With Packsize, that’s a bit of our motto here. We pack everything from a very small tablet to a big locker or a sofa. So, this flexibility is one of the major aspects of Packsize’s DNA. We can offer our customers both flexibility and automation to save costs and be more efficient in the market.
Packsize is an Right-sized Packaging On Demand system and process provider for businesses with complex intralogistic requirements. The business is globally headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah and has installations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Benelux, Poland and Scandinavia.
It serves customers in 21 countries.
What new technologies or products are you presenting at this exposition, and how can they improve production processes for our customers and viewers?
We are not featuring our machines as much this time. Our latest innovation is called X5. The new thing about X5 is that it provides right-sized boxes every time, lot size one, in an erected form. It’s already upright and open at the top, so you can just put order items into it. Each box is different from the next one and the previous one.
We don’t have the machine here, but we have it at other trade shows. This time, we are focusing on the variety of solutions we offer. X5 is probably the most current and exciting one.
In your opinion, what will be the biggest challenge for corrugated board manufacturers in the next five years, and how is your company helping them address these challenges?
The challenge is more on the packaging industry as a whole. In Europe, we are expecting new packaging and packaging waste regulations from the European Union (PPWR). The target is to reduce packaging waste and the amount of packaging.
This will be a big challenge, especially for plastic packaging. We are helping by offering corrugated solutions that already contain recycled materials and are very sustainable as they are.
Corrugated is the future of fighting against the climate crisis and packaging waste because it can be recycled and contains recycled material.
All the requirements of the new European law are already fulfilled with corrugated. We are on track to being sustainable and efficient.
And last question, what message would you like to share with corrugated board manufacturers and tourists worldwide who are watching this interview?
I’m confident that we will get through this period of slight consumer reluctance to buy. E-commerce is unstoppable. Corrugated is the best, most natural, and most sustainable packaging material.
Be patient and keep innovating with new technologies to offer economic and ecological packaging solutions. Let’s continue on this path.
Thank you very much for your time.
You’re welcome. Interesting information, and we wish you good luck at the trade fair.
Thank you. We hope to gain a lot of new customers.
Thank you for the interview.
