“The company currently accounts for 10% of the Brazilian market and aims to maintain this pace. This reflects investments in capacity expansion and customer relationships,” says Jairo Lorenzatto, president of WestRock in Latin America.

“In this context, the company’s expectation for 2024 is to grow twice as much as the Brazilian market, which – in a moderate estimate – should advance by 1%, according to the evaluation of the Brazilian Association of Paper Packaging (Empapel).”
According to Empapel, in February, the shipment of corrugated cardboard advanced 11.1% in the annual comparison, with 326,723 thousand tons. This is the second-largest volume shipped among the months of February, only behind February 2021.
WestRock continues to invest in expanding its capacity in Brazil, a market that has recorded growth above the industry average in recent years.
In this sense, the most recent move made by the company was the expansion of its packaging factory in Itupeva (SP). With last year’s investments in the paper-to-packaging conversion unit, WestRock increased its production capacity by 15% in São Paulo.
It is worth noting that the company is in the process of merging with the Irish company Smurfit Kappa, creating a global giant in the packaging industry and expanding its local operation – considering that SK also operates in the country.
