The ~8,500-mm wide (fabric) PM1 at Bear Island (Ashland, Virginia, U.S.), designed to make newspaper, was rebuilt to annually produce 465,000 short tons of lightweight, high-quality, 100% recycled containerboard and medium grades for the North American market

“Cascades would like to thank all its employees and partners who made this project possible, a feat made even more challenging given the difficult global context of supply chain issues,” comments Charles Malo, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cascades Containerboard Packaging. Founded in 1964, Cascades employs 10,000 talents across a network close to 80 facilities in North America.
“This project was the second largest in Cascades‘ history, and we are very proud to have successfully converted this plant into a state-of-the-art mill that will allow Cascades to grow our market share and enhance service and our portfolio of sustainable solutions for our customers.”
The Valmet delivery included a new sizer, headbox with a Valmet QCS, as well as modernizations for the forming section, press section, drying section, and reel.
