CBS Packaging Group, one of the United Kingdom’s leading independent manufacturers of corrugated board and packaging solutions, has acquired a 120,000 sq ft industrial facility in Walsall, West Midlands, as part of a strategic expansion to increase production capacity and meet future market demand. The facility will be converted into a fully operational corrugated board and packaging plant, with operations expected to begin by mid‑2026.

“This expansion is a key milestone for the business,” said Jitha Singh, Managing Director of CBS Packaging Group.

“It reflects our vision to strengthen manufacturing capacity, support future growth, and serve our customers more efficiently across the UK and Europe. This site gives us the flexibility to scale production and implement new technology to improve quality and sustainability. Thank you to our team, customers, and partners for your continued support. More information on this new chapter of our journey will be shared in due course.”

The project represents one of CBS’s largest recent investments. While the exact purchase price of the Walsall site has not been disclosed, previous expansion projects involved multi‑million‑pound investments, demonstrating the company’s commitment to long-term growth and technological advancement. The site is currently undergoing initial refurbishment and planning approvals in preparation for the installation of advanced corrugating and conversion machinery.

CBS Packaging Group: Overview

Founded in 1996 as Corrugated Box Supplies, CBS Packaging Group has grown into a multi‑site, fully integrated corrugated packaging manufacturer with decades of industry experience. The company operates:

  • West Bromwich flagship plant — a 160,000 sq ft facility with modern corrugating and converting equipment.
  • Benfleet, Essex plant — a 70,000 sq ft BRC‑accredited conversion facility.
  • CPS Paper Products in Manchester — supplying around 20,000 tonnes of paper annually to feed corrugating operations.

The company’s integration of paper supply, board production, and finishing gives it operational control, faster turnaround, and improved reliability — key competitive advantages in the corrugated sector.

Project Progress: Current Status

The Walsall site is in the initial development and conversion phase, with structural refurbishment, planning approvals, and utility upgrades underway before machinery installation. CBS has indicated that further updates will be shared as the project progresses, signaling a clear roadmap toward a fully functioning corrugated packaging facility.

Why This Expansion Matters for Corrugated Producers

  • Capacity Growth: The new facility increases CBS’s total manufacturing footprint, enabling the company to serve larger orders and maintain high delivery reliability.
  • Modernisation and Technology: The site is expected to house modern, automated production equipment that improves throughput, precision, and board quality.
  • Supply Chain Resilience: Regional capacity expansion strengthens the UK supply network and reduces reliance on external sources.
  • Opportunities for Suppliers: The scale-up may drive increased demand for corrugators, printing systems, paper materials, adhesives, and automation solutions.

Strategic Growth Signal for the Industry

CBS Packaging Group’s acquisition and transformation of the Walsall facility underscores its long-term commitment to growth and capacity expansion. With commissioning scheduled for mid‑2026, this investment enhances CBS’s competitive position and signals confidence in the UK corrugated packaging market — a positive development for producers, suppliers, and industry partners.
