Interview with Fabien Val-Duprez, Président of the company at SuperCorrExpo 2024.

Good afternoon! Tell us about your company.

The company is CUIR because it was owned and created by Marcel CUIR in 1932. We are a French company. We manufacture our machines in the north of France, close to Lille, near the Belgian border, and we dispatch our machines worldwide.

We are pleased because we are a bit unique.

We have Rotaplatine flatbed die-cutter between a cylinder and a die, which allows us to make special shapes of nice boxes with multi-outs and no nicking points using matrix and channel. Something really unique with CUIR is that we print inline with servo printing units and die-cutting in line, delivering different kinds of machines we can make.

Let me explain what it is.

We have a machine called the MRV. The MRV is a custom-made machine with top and bottom printing units. Since 2020, we have delivered some double-sided printing machines with perfect register between color and die cuttings, thanks to cells and sensors all around the machine. We have independent brushless motors that correct the register, ensuring perfect accuracy.

Another machine is the AMC MC CUIR, which is not custom-made but a standard machine. It has two colors for top printing in line with a flatbed die cutter, stripping, and delivery. What is really special about this machine is that it is ten meters long from the feeder to the delivery unit. It is the only machine in the world that is ten meters long with two colors in line with a flatbed die cutter.

Do you make it for a garage business or something?

In some countries like the UK or in Europe, space is really important, and the footprint of the machine is key. It is also crucial for the cost of the machine and to be able to dispatch it worldwide.

But they are French.

Yes, we are French, and we are proud of this. For our US market, we have a partner named Tom Toboggan Torosian, based in Racine, Wisconsin. Tom stocks spare parts and handles delivery. We are really pleased because this year we will install the first new machine in Texas after 25 years. It has been 25 years since we last delivered a new machine, but it will be installed in Texas on November 24th, and we are really happy.

The customer is an independent who chose one inside and three outside with a flatbed die cutter. This is something quite similar to this, but with one more color. If you have a few more seconds to look, you can see this special die-cutting process with a big drum.

Photons, a beam, photons, and die cuts between the die and the drum. This system has been in place forever, allowing us to die-cut something really fantastic, sharp, and efficient with multi-outs and no nicking points. We are pretty pleased.

Thank you for sharing. Do you have something related to sustainability?

We work a lot on it. I would say that there is no compromise on quality. We focus a lot on local suppliers. Most of our suppliers are from France, with a few from Germany. We try to source locally for motors and electricity. Everything comes from Bosch Rexroth, and we moved to them because they offered us a solution where all the brake energy is released into the system to go to heat outside.

This is important for us. We also work with great companies like Absolute, who make durable carbon fiber chamber doctor blades. We don’t want to use short-lived equipment.

This is important for us, for quality and sustainability, and this is how we want to manage our company.

Typically, we make roadside printing machines that print inside and outside in a single pass, with as many printing units as needed. This gives an idea of the quality and detail we can achieve. We are really pleased with this French brand.

These kinds of boxes are really small, really nice, and have clean prints. This is really the key.

Is that like a laser cutter or a normal die cutter?

Always normal. Another special feature is our French boxes. They are quite simple, but our customers, who have high standards for quality and sharpness, appreciate them. The print has to be perfect, with no need for negotiation.

Thank you.

You’re welcome.
