An Interview with President Alessandro Bersanetti.
Welcome to FEFCO 2025! What does it mean for Emmepi Group to have this event in Italy?
Buongiorno! First of all, I’d like to greet everyone following you and say — welcome to Italy! We’re proud to finally host FEFCO in Rome after many years of trying to bring this important event to our country. For Emmepi Group, it’s a key moment to share our vision and explore the future of the corrugated market.
What trends are shaping that future?
Without a doubt, the most important trend is the growing demand for automation. We’ve seen this increase year after year, and it’s something Emmepi Group has focused on since the very beginning. Our mission has always been to provide integrated automation solutions for the corrugated industry — and now, more than ever, the market is asking for it.
Emmepi Group, headquartered in Italy, is a leading provider of materials handling systems and automation solutions for the corrugated board industry. The company offers a wide array of products, including plant logistics and handling, peripherals, strappers, wrappers, and robotic solutions.
How is Emmepi Group responding to this demand?
We’ve built our strategy around being a single-source supplier for automation. Our goal is to offer one solution, one partner — covering all equipment and systems needed to automate corrugated production. At FEFCO, we presented two major developments:
- A new division dedicated to robotics and multi-part machines, focused on palletization and end-of-line automation.
- Our expansion into the United States, which is now a key focus for our future growth. We’ve just opened a service hub there to support North American converters.
What’s changing inside Emmepi Group to support this growth?
We’re evolving quickly. Our team now includes both experienced industry leaders, like Alfio Brandi, who recently joined us, and a new generation from our founding families — young professionals who are stepping into this incredible industry. It’s a powerful mix of experience and fresh energy.
You also showcased your two-level finishing line. What makes it special?
This is one of our proudest innovations. We introduced the two-level finishing line three years ago in Italy, and now we’re ready to show it to the world. We needed time to test it in real production and confirm its performance — and the results have been excellent.
The key advantage is space optimization. Corrugated plants often struggle with limited floor space. By using two levels, we significantly reduce the footprint required. But that’s not all — we also improve safety, because forklifts no longer need to enter the end-of-line zone.
How does it impact logistics and stacking?
With double stacking, we reduce the number of forklift trips needed to move finished goods. This means less traffic, fewer risks, and more efficient storage management. It’s a smart solution that many of our visitors in northern Italy have seen live — and they all ask the same question: “Can we install this too?” The only concern is ceiling height!
What about the flow between finishing and storage?
That’s a critical point. Many companies invest heavily in finishing lines, but if the flow to storage isn’t optimized — due to distance or limited forklift capacity — the results can fall short. With our two-level system and double stacking, we reduce forklift workload and ensure smoother transitions to the warehouse. It’s a complete solution.
Final thoughts?
We’re excited about what’s ahead. Emmepi Group continues to improve and innovate, and we’re proud of the results we’ve achieved in recent years. The success of our two-level finishing line is just one example — and we’re confident that more news and solutions will follow soon.
