In March 2021, Luca Lazzaroni, owner of Italy’s Icierre Pack Srl, signed a contract for a new BW Papersystems rotary die-cutter without much scrutiny, just after an online video demonstration. Prior to that, three Curioni inlines have worked flawlessly at his enterprise for many years, thepackagingportal reports

“We chose BW Papersystems for the long relation we have with them and the trust we have in their sales team that includes Marco Angeli and Carmine Belardo, who had already helped us with the last machine we purchased,” Luca Lazzaroni says to Brunton Publications. “It has been a great start-up, even considering we had to install the machine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have been buying Curioni equipment regularly since the 1970s, until it was acquired by BW Papersystems. In 2017, we purchased a 6.18 MiniPro flexo folder gluer to increase the quality and quantity of boxes that we were doing – it was commissioned in 2018.
“In 2021, we opted to invest in the 16.28 ServoPro RDC, the first of its type to be installed anywhere in Europe. We chose BW Papersystems because having worked with them before, we wanted to maintain the relationship, because we had had a great experience with the collaboration so far.”

The ServoPro was chosen to replace Icierre’s old rotary die-cutter and to increase the quality and speed of production. It is a truly servo machine with no gear train, no gear backlash to keep maintained, no oil and is sealed from production dust. The ServoPro features a modern controls platform and user-friendly HMI system. The 16.28 model is 1676mm x 2870mm in format. The four colour machine, which can be retrofitted with an additional flexo print unit for inside printing at a later date.
“With the installation of the ServoPro, we have notably reduced the set up time and also increased productivity, both in terms of quality and quantity,” confirms Luca Lazzaroni. “It has also increased reliability and uptime within the factory, as it can handle all types of board. For example, at certain times of the year when there is more humidity, the board tends to warp; with the ServoPro, we can run heavily warped board at high speed with very good results. It is really reliable.
“During the COVID-19 period, we did not have any downtime and the little issues we did have, we solved them easily with the remote assistance from BW Papersystems. It is a most reliable machine and we are happy with its performance.
“The next step for our company will be the acquisition of a new flexo folder gluer soon, and we are considering the new 12.28 FlexPro from BW Papersystems.”

“We are delighted to see this first of its type machine running so well in Europe,” says Marco Angeli, New Equipment Sales Leader, BW Papersystems. “This is a hugely significant order for several reasons.
“Luca Lazzaroni is a well-established customer of ours, as he is currently running three BW Papersystems machines and this is testament to the ongoing relationship we hold together.
“But the most pleasing thing is that as a sign of the strength of our relationship, Mr. Lazzaroni bought the new machine without actually seeing it in real life. Due to COVID-19, we had to show him the machine by way of virtual demo and video presentation from our manufacturing facility. Icierre Pack was satisfied with what they saw and placed the order with us.”

“ServoPro is built for versatility. It is designed for the production of corrugated packaging of any complexity at speeds of up to 200 blanks per minute,” says Oleg Chernov, corrugated equipment specialist at BW Papersystems Frankfurt.
“The machine combines the latest technologies and features that have made Ward rotary die cutters the world’s best-sellers: high reliability 24/7, high printing and die-cutting accuracy, and low cost of ownership.
“The new die-cutter suggests both outside and inside printing.
“This option is in high demand in the US and European markets and is a unique new tool for advertising and marketing, as well as a strong competitive advantage in the growing e-commerce market.
“The ServoPro die-cutter is available in two versions – 16.32 (1676mm x 3251mm) and 16.28 (1676mm x 2870mm).
“In the USA, the first ServoPro was installed in 2020, and since March 2021 it is available in the European market.”
