ixs-pal®: Why Corrugated Pallets Make Sense

Interview with Robert Karimov, PR Manager at FEFCO 2025.

ixs-pal® is an innovative pallet system designed to replace traditional wooden pallets with more sustainable and eco-friendly corrugated board pallets.

Robert, why should every corrugated board manufacturer consider your solution?

Because at the end of the day, when you’re shipping your products, you’re often using random wooden pallets that you have no quality control over. Instead, you could be shipping them on your own corrugated pallets. It’s just a natural extension of your product.

That makes sense. The idea seems solid.

I think so too—and I hope you agree.

What’s your message to corrugated producers?

My message is to recognize the sustainability already inherent in corrugated packaging. And to extend that sustainability to the final stage of your product’s journey—by replacing wooden or plastic pallets with corrugated ones.

So your mission is to replace wood?

Yes, that’s our mission.

What exactly do you offer, and how does it work?

We offer a system that integrates at the end of a production line to create pallets just-in-time, right at the point of palletizing. It starts with pre-cut cardboard sheets that are folded into modules. These modules are then assembled by two robotic arms.

Can you show how that works?

First, the modules are produced. Then the first robotic arm picks up a module and places it onto a base sheet on the assembly surface. The pallet is built module by module, and finished with a top sheet. The second arm assists in assembly and places the finished pallet to the side for pickup.

And how are the modules themselves produced?

In this part of the machine, we have a stack of pre-cut cardboard sheets. Each sheet is picked up, folded, and glued into a module. The finished modules are then fed into the assembly process.

How does this work in real production environments?

Magic. 🙂

And how does this help manufacturers make money?

First, there are savings on material. Corrugated is strong enough to serve as a pallet and is cost-effective. You can choose the grade based on the load requirements. Second, your customers might want to use cardboard pallets but don’t have local suppliers. As a corrugated manufacturer, you can offer pallets not only for your own logistics but also as a product—creating a new revenue stream.

Excellent. Thank you very much!

Thank you.

Thanks for sharing. Take care!
