“We designed this cardboard bed so that three or four people can jump on it. Because after getting a medal, people become very happy,” says Motokuni Takaoka, CEO of the Japanese company Airweave.
The bed frame on which the sportsmen will sleep for the next Olympic Games was unveiled to the public. Entirely made of cardboard, it is however “solid” assures its designer.
In addition to being made of cardboard, these beds, manufactured in France, are also modular. The mattress is divided into three different parts of variable firmness, whose order can be changed. Upon entering the Olympic village, each athlete will be scanned and photographed. An AI will process the data to establish the best possible mattress combination for the athlete, depending on their height, weight and sport.
