On 65 hectares in the Can Margarit industrial estate (Barcelona municipality), where Saica Pack already operates a finished product warehouse, the company plans to unify Saica Pack El Prat and Saica Pack Barcelona operations. A long-awaited event for both plants that could not grow for a long time because of space limitations
“It has not been easy to develop a plot of these dimensions, at this distance from Barcelona,” says Miguel Arévalo, Managing Director at Saica Pack El Prat. “It is the result of careful long-term planning.”
“The new factory will have the latest technology, which will combine flexo and offset print. Due to size and technology, this facility will be a national and European benchmark in the sustainable packaging sector.”
The current plants in Barcelona and El Prat will continue to operate until the new factory opens, to which they will gradually transfer their production. It is also planned to transfer all 294 employees of these facilities to the new site.
The start of the works is expected this summer and the installation of the first machines by the end of 2024.

In 2023, Saica is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Over 10,000 people are employed at more than 100 Saica factories in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Great Britain, Ireland, Turkey, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the USA and Poland.
In 2022, the company’s turnover amounted to €4.4bn with 3.3m tons of sold products. In addition to the production of corrugated packaging (Saica Pack), the company has three other business areas: the production of recycled containerboard (Saica Paper), flexible packaging (Saica Flex), waste management and environmental services (Saica Natur).
