After commissioning in April-May, the rebuit containerboard machine of the VPK Alizay mill will produce about 450,000 tons of recycled corrugated case material per year. This is just the first of three containerboard projects being launched in France
Previously, the 9.55m-wide paper machine at Alizay produced 300,000 tpy of woodfree uncoated paper. Valmet recently completed its transition to fluting and testliner grades with a basis weight range of 75–135 gsm. On April 3, test runs began. The products will be processed at the VPK Group‘s corrugated board plant, which is located on the same site and was commissioned in November 2022.
Also in the fourth quarter of 2023, Norske Skog plans to launch a rebuilt containerboard machine at the Golbey mill with a capacity of 550,000 tpy. The mill is currently converting one of its two newsprint paper machines to produce recycled containerboard.
In addition, another newsprint PM at Chapelle Darblay mill (Rouen) is set to be transformed. Veolia and Fiber Excellence plan to convert it to the production of about 400,000 tpy of containerboard (both recyled and possibly fresh fibre).
