“The new plant represents everything Progroup stands for: technological progress, entrepreneurial vision and excellent teamwork,” emphasises Progroup CEO Maximilian Heindl. “With this plant, we not only invest in high-performance production, but also in a strong, dynamic and long-term future together with our customers in Italy.“

In August 2025, Progroup AG officially began regular operations at its new corrugated sheetfeeder plant PW16 in Cessalto, northern Italy. This marks a major milestone in the company’s strategic expansion across Europe and reinforces its commitment to sustainable, high-performance packaging solutions.
The plant is located next to Ondulkart, a key customer, forming a fully integrated Packaging Park that eliminates road transport between facilities.
Cutting-Edge Technology
The PW16 facility features a BHS Corrugated line with:
- Production speed: up to 400 m/min
- Working width: 3.35 meters
- Annual capacity: 200,000 tonnes
- Automated warehouse: space for 15,000 pallets
The plant produces Next Generation® board, known for its lightweight structure and high strength, helping customers reduce material usage without compromising performance.

Sustainability Meets Efficiency
The Packaging Park model allows for:
- Zero truck transport between production and processing
- Reduced CO₂ emissions
- Streamlined intralogistics
- Faster delivery cycles
For reference
Progroup AG is one of Europe’s leading producers of containerboard and corrugated board. The company is headquartered in Landau, Germany, and was founded in 1991 in Offenbach an der Queich. Since then, it has followed a steady growth strategy focused on modern technology and environmentally friendly production.
Progroup operates in six countries across Central Europe, with:
- 3 paper mills
- 14 corrugated sheetfeeder plants
- 1 logistics company
- 1 recycling facility
- 1 waste-to-energy plant
- 1 additional power plant under construction in Sandersdorf-Brehna near Leipzig
PW16 is Progroup’s second plant in Italy, following PW11 in Drizzona.
Unlike traditional packaging companies, Progroup does not produce finished packaging. Instead, it supplies corrugated board to medium-sized packaging manufacturers who don’t have their own board production.
In 2024, the company employed more than 1,780 people and generated around €1.3 billion in revenue.
