TCY has made two North American moves that matter far more together than apart.

A newly commissioned NB5 Flexo Folder Gluer is running on the US East Coast at up to 16,800 sheets/hour. At the same time, TCY has appointed Young Shin USA as its partner for the United States and Canada, adding locally based sales, spare parts, field service and training.

One announcement shows what the machine can do. The other addresses what happens after the machine is sold.

For corrugated box plants, that is the bigger story.

Valley Container already runs a TCY NB5 in Connecticut across a mixed programme of printed boxes, trays and die-cut work. In Montreal, Mitchel Lincoln converts AAC and AAA 1,100-lb board on a TCY N11 Jumbo with inline stitching. A sister Atlantic Packaging Group facility had already operated a TCY Jumbo FFG for more than 20 years before that purchase.

Now TCY is pairing those product references with a North American partner that already sells and supports converting equipment, stocks parts and trains operators.

The result is a stronger proposition than speed alone: machines, local market access, technicians, training and a broader converting portfolio under one North American route to market.

The newest move: TCY appoints Young Shin USA

Young Shin USA is not a new entrant to converting. Its South Korean parent, Young Shin Industries, was established in Daegu in 1980. Young Shin USA followed in 2008 and is based in Schaumburg, Illinois, where it provides sales, service, spare parts and training.

Under the agreement, Young Shin USA will represent TCY’s full inline casemakers, rotary die-cutters and corrugator lines in the US and Canada alongside its existing Young Shin flatbed die-cutters and STOCK laminating and labelling systems.

That gives a box plant one local commercial and technical contact across several converting stages.

Young Shin’s strongest name is in flatbed die-cutting. Its corrugated portfolio includes Zenith and Giant machines. The Zenith 150S, for example, is published for E, B, A and AB flute, a maximum sheet size of 1500 × 1100 mm, cutting pressure of 440 US tons and speeds up to 7,000 sheets/hour.

Young Shin USA also represents Germany’s STOCK Maschinenbau, founded in 1970. STOCK supplies laminating, labelling and inline systems; its SLOTF sheet-to-sheet laminator is published at more than 10,000 sheets/hour.

Young Shin’s North American customer snapshots include equipment relationships with WestRock sites in Tennessee and Wisconsin, PCA/Boise Paper in Salt Lake City and TriState Container in Pennsylvania. These are Young Shin/STOCK references, not TCY installations. Their importance is different: they show that TCY’s new partner already knows major converting plants and North American service expectations.

The bridge: existing TCY machines, future TCY support

Valley Container and Mitchel Lincoln were installed before the Young Shin USA appointment, so Young Shin should not be presented as the service organisation behind those projects.

But those machines show what TCY has already been able to sell and run in North America. The new partnership changes the equation for future customers by adding another local route for sales, parts, field service and operator training.

The machine cases prove the product. The Young Shin agreement strengthens the infrastructure around the next sale.

A fresh NB5: 16,800 sheets/hour on the US East Coast

On September 14, 2026, TCY reported the installation and commissioning of an NB5 for an undisclosed US East Coast customer. The 1000 × 2500 mm — 39 × 98 in — bottom-print platform combines printing, slotting, folding and gluing in one automated flow.

TCY publishes a maximum speed of 16,800 sheets/hour, or 280 sheets/minute. The machine had already been running for several months across different box styles and production volumes when the installation was reported.

Because the customer was not identified, corruga.expert is not counting it automatically as a second installation alongside the publicly documented Valley Container project.

TCY’s North American story now combines machine performance, heavy-duty applications, long-term operating history and a stronger local support network through Young Shin USA.

Speed is only the first filter

The NB5’s 16,800 sheets/hour sits below TCY’s own QS-1025 at up to 21,000 sheets/hour. BW Papersystems publishes up to 400 sheets/minute for its FlexPro 9.25, while BOBST publishes up to 22,000 boxes/hour for the FFG 8.20 EXPERT.

Those numbers are not directly comparable: format, board, print configuration, die-cutting, box style, feeding conditions and even the definition of output differ.

For a plant, the stronger question is simple: how many saleable boxes come off the line after changeovers, waste, difficult board, short runs and operator intervention?

Valley Container: what the NB5 has to do in real production

Valley Container installed a 38 × 98 in, three-colour TCY NB5 at its Bridgeport, Connecticut facility. The configuration combines bottom print, top die-cut and an RDSI inline dwell and waste-removal section. TCY Smart Tech stores jobs and machine positions, supports setup and recall, reports errors and issues maintenance reminders.

Owner Robert Niedermeier said the company wanted “faster, more automated equipment solutions.”

That matters because Valley does not run one easy box all day. Its mix includes conventional printed boxes, food-and-beverage die-cut work, smaller boxes and trays, large printed sheets and larger unfolded die-cuts.

Niedermeier said the line allows more of that work to run at higher speeds while stopping waste from travelling into finished bundles.

“This clearly improves production efficiency, flexibility and customer satisfaction,” he said.

The real performance test is whether one line can handle more of the plant’s actual mix with fewer interruptions and less waste.

Montreal: 1,100-lb board and a 20-year signal

Mitchel Lincoln, part of Atlantic Packaging Group, installed a TCY N11 Jumbo casemaker in Montreal in early 2024 for heavy-duty production.

Its requirement was very different from Valley’s: convert AAC and AAA 1,100-lb sheet in one integrated process.

The 86 × 205 in, two-colour N11 Jumbo includes rotary die-cutting, inline stitching, a counter down stacker and a Jumbo prefeeder tied into the plant conveyor system.

Industrial Director Emmanuel Eydan said: “It was critical that the machine could run these heavy board grades.”

Inline stitching can eliminate a separate downstream operation, reducing handling, work-in-process, queues and labour between machines.

But the strongest number may be 20 years. Before selecting the new N11, Mitchel Lincoln reported that a sister facility had already been running a TCY Jumbo FFG reliably for more than two decades.

For capital equipment, a repeat purchase after that operating history is a stronger reliability signal than another brochure claim.

The service network is now part of the machine specification

For future US and Canadian customers, the Young Shin agreement adds locally based sales, spare parts, field service and training. TCY has also described remote technical support and return site visits in previous customer cases.

That changes the buying conversation.

Not only: How fast is the line?

Also: Which parts are stocked locally? Who answers first? Which problems can Young Shin USA solve directly? When does TCY’s factory team become involved? How quickly can a technician reach the plant?

The capital price is paid once. Downtime is paid every time production stops.

South America is the control case

North America now shows three elements at the same time: operating TCY customer cases, a fresh machine installation and a stronger local sales/service route through Young Shin USA.

South America does not yet show the same public picture. TCY was present at LatamCORR Argentina 2026, but recent country-by-country installed-base data remain limited and the Young Shin agreement covers only the US and Canada.

For a converter in Brazil, Argentina, Chile or Colombia, the unanswered questions are broader: which TCY machines are already running nearby, where will parts come from, who commissions the line and who arrives when remote support is not enough?

That contrast explains the importance of the Young Shin announcement. A trade-show presence creates visibility. A machine reference creates credibility. A local service network can turn both into repeatable business.

TCY’s NB5 Flexo Folder Gluer is rated at up to 16,800 sheets/hour in a 1000 × 2500 mm format; a newly commissioned unit is now running at an undisclosed customer on the US East Coast.

A 60-second ROI check

TCY does not publish a purchase price for the new East Coast NB5, so the useful calculation starts with the plant’s own data.

Recovered production time = order changes × minutes saved per change.

Additional good boxes = recovered hours × actual saleable boxes/hour.

Annual contribution = additional good boxes × contribution margin/box × production days.

Illustrative example: 15 changes per shift × 5 minutes saved = 75 recovered minutes. At 6,000 saleable boxes/hour and a $0.05 contribution margin, across 250 production days that is about $93,750 in annual contribution.

Then add labour redeployed, waste avoided, secondary operations removed, released capacity and reduced downtime. Subtract financing, maintenance and operating-cost differences.

The exact number will differ by plant. The logic will not.

Six questions before signing

  1. What saleable speed can the line maintain on our real order mix?

Red flag: the demonstration only shows rated speed on an easy, long run.

  1. What is the complete changeover time from last good sheet to first good sheet?

Red flag: setup time excludes print, die, ink, wash-up or downstream adjustments.

  1. Which operations disappear when more functions are integrated inline?

Red flag: the machine is faster, but labour, handling and secondary processes remain unchanged.

  1. Which critical spare parts are stocked in our region — and who can physically reach the plant?

Red flag: “24/7 support” means only a remote call with no clear field-response path.

  1. Can the machine be tested on our difficult board and real jobs?

Red flag: acceptance testing is limited to ideal board or supplier-selected work.

  1. Which KPIs will prove the investment worked six months after start-up?

Red flag: nobody has agreed on saleable boxes/hour, setup minutes, waste, labour per 1,000 boxes, uptime, OEE or contribution margin before the purchase.

What these two news items say together

The NB5 installation says TCY is still placing converting equipment into North American plants. The Young Shin appointment says the company is strengthening the commercial and aftermarket structure around future installations.

Valley Container proves the mixed-work potential. Mitchel Lincoln shows the heavy-duty end of the range. The 20-year Jumbo reference adds operating history. Young Shin USA adds an established local organisation with die-cutting, laminating and service relationships.

That does not prove market leadership, and TCY’s total installed base across the Americas is still not publicly clear. But it does change the competitive equation.

A fast machine can win attention at a trade show. A local network of parts, technicians and trained people determines whether that machine keeps earning after the show is over.
